12 Days of YA Book Recommendations: Day 5 – Contemporary

12 days - theheartofabookblogger

On the fifth day of YA Book Recommendations, I am sharing my favorite contemporary romances!

Katie McGarry is one of my favorite authors. The romances she writes are so realistic. They deal with tough issues, yet they have so much love in them and are so easy to get caught up in. Plus, she writes some pretty swoon worthy guys. Nowhere But Here is the start of her second series, Thunder Road. While Nowhere But Here was not my favorite of her novels, the sequel, Walk the Edge just may be my favorite of all her novels. I highly recommend any of Katie McGarry’s novels if you are looking for great romances that address heavier topics.

Miranda Kenneally is another one of my auto-buy authors. Each book in the Hundred Oaks series focuses on a new couple and honestly each story is different and great in its own way. I love how the characters have their own voices and how the storylines are not repetitive, even though they are all from the same town in Tennessee. I also adore that most of the novels each focus on a different sport. I’m still crossing my fingers for one about basketball!

  • I adore Katie McGarry with everything in my soul and I am so glad to see other people spreading that love. I haven’t yet read her Thunder Road books, but I definitely want to! I read a ton of contemporary books because it is my favorite genre, so some of my favorites are anything by Sarah Dessen and Morgan Matson, Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han, Speechless and Saving June by Hannah Harrington…and honestly so many more! Great recommendations!

    • I absolutely love Jenny Han’s To All the Boys!! I can’t wait for the third to be released in 2017! I’ve read several Sarah Dessen and Morgan Matson books and enjoyed them all! I haven’t heard of Hannah Harrington, but I am going to check her out! Thanks for sharing!
