Happy New Year! I’m excited to share with you my bookish highlights, reading stats, and favorite books of 2022!
Bookish Highlights
- The biggest highlight is of course that I began my publishing career at Penguin Random House! Check out the announcement here if you missed it.
- In-person book events returned and I attended quite a few, including Yallwest and the LA Times Festival of Books!
- Netflix invited me to the movie premiere for Sarah Dessen’s Along for the Ride and it was the coolest event!
- Continued offering author assistant services and took on a new author! I was also mentioned in the acknowledgments of Serena Kaylor’s debut, Long Story Short, for the assistant services I provided.
- Girls’ Life Magazine featured my bookstagram and interviewed me for their Bestie Book Club!
- Hung out with book friends in real life (I met up with a ton of new and old bookstagram friends at book events throughout the year and joined an adult romance book club with local bookstagrammers).
Reading Stats
- I read 98 books this year! Fun fact: Three were read with both audio and physical editions.
- Audio was by far my most-read format. I’ve been in a bit of a physical reading slump since 2020, so I am very grateful for audiobooks!
- Surprisingly, I read more new-to-me authors (aka this was the first book I’ve read from them) than authors I’ve read before.
- Unsurprisingly, I ready mostly YA books. One goal of mine was to read more Middle Grade, so I am happy that I got to 7 books (and plan to grow this number this year). I also joined an adult romance book club this past year, so 3 of the 7 adult books were book club picks!
- Some other stats: I read 18 graphic novels and reread 5.5 books.
Now, it’s finally time to share my favorite reads of the year!

Impressive reading stats especially with a busy schedule.
My favorite YA book: The Patron Saint of Nothing, by Randy Ribay. It was published in 2019. My favorite MG novel was The Seeds of Change by Aida Salazar.
Thank you! I’ve heard great things about The Patron Saint of Nothing!
