Author Interview + Giveaway: Finding Mr. Better-Than-You

Finding Mr. Better-Than-You Blog Tour

Last week I shared my 4-star review of Finding Mr. Better-Than-You, which is a fun story about friendship and finding yourself. Today, I’m excited to be interviewing the author, Shani Petroff!

Q&A with Shani Petroff

Let’s begin with a little bit about Finding Mr. Better-Than-You—describe it in five words.

Friendship and finding yourself. (Friend-mance)

What inspired Finding Mr. Better-Than-You?

I was seeing someone I really liked. He ended things saying long distance was too hard—and then a few weeks later I found out (through Facebook) that he was engaged. I was crushed, but it led to much better things – including a book idea!

Your main character Cam is a senior in high school and applying for college. What advice would you give high school students in Cam’s position?

You don’t have to have all the answers right now. Trust yourself, your gut, and those that have your best interests at heart. Do your homework (look into things that may be a good fit for you), and there’s no one right or wrong answer. You can excel and make the most of your experience anywhere!

Cam is also a major fan of rom-coms. What are your favorite rom-coms?

There are so many! Movie-wise, some older ones I love are Bridget Jones’s Diary, When Harry Met Sally and some newer ones are Love, Simon and The Princess Switch. But, really, there are very few rom-coms I don’t geek out about!

You’ve written several books now, how has your writing process changed (or stayed the same) between your different books?

In many ways it’s stayed the same. Finding the time to write and revise amidst my work schedule (I also write/produce for a TV news station) and commitments. Trying to stop myself from binge watching a TV series, or picking up a book and reading it from cover to cover, when I should be writing. Sometimes I’m successful, and sometimes I find myself watching every episode of The Circle on Netflix. But ultimately, I try to sit down and write and make the best book that I can!

Do you have any writing rituals?

Procrastination…  It’s a ritual I’m really hoping to do away with!

What’s up next? Can you share anything with us about what you’re currently working on?

I’m working on another Swoon Reads book – only this one will be paranormal mystery!

A heartbroken teen, with the help of her best friends, goes on a quest to find the perfect boyfriend, and in the end learns that some things are more important than boys in Shani Petroff’s fun YA contemporary novel Finding Mr. Better-Than-You.

Camryn Roth has it all planned out: a perfect senior year with her friends and then it’s off to Columbia with her boyfriend, Marc. But the first week of school, everything falls apart. Not only does she not have enough extracurriculars for her dream school, her relationship falls to pieces when Marc publically dumps her!

With the help of her two best friends, Camryn is determined to pull her life back together. Step one, more extracurriculars. Step two, get over Marc and find someone better.

Shani Petroff’s newest rom-com is a love letter to friendship: to those who help you find your true self, stand by you no matter what, and support your plans even when they know they’re doomed.
