Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare — 5 stars
I’ve had Lady Midnight on my shelf since it released, but I didn’t pick it up until this year. There were a few reasons for this including wanting to wait until the series was completed . . . but I’m so glad I finally read it! I loved the large cast of characters, especially Emma and Jules, and the mystery-filled plot. I listened to the audiobook for this one (well, I switched off back and forth between it and the physical book) and really enjoyed the narrator. Looking forward to reading the rest of the trilogy!
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson — 5 stars
I highly recommend the audiobook for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. The full-cast narration and extra sound effects add so much to the story! This story follows Pippa Fitz-Amobi as she investigates a five-year-old cold case for her senior year project. I loved following her as she uncovered secrets with her partner Ravi. The mystery kept me engaged and curious the entire time, and I’m excited to read/listen to the sequel next year!
The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, and Maureen Johnson — 4 stars
The Bane Chronicles doesn’t have the strongest start, but the stories get so much better as Magnus starts interacting with the main characters across the different series. My favorites from this collection were “Vampire, Scones, and Edmund Herondale,” “The Midnight Heir,” and “Saving Raphael Santiago.” I listened to the audiobook and each story was narrated by a different person (so some of the narrators I really enjoyed, a couple not so much). Tweet Cute by Emma Lord — 5 stars
If you’re a fan of rom-coms, you are going to want to read Emma Lord’s Tweet Cute right away! This books is freakin’ adorable, and I instantly fell in love with Pepper and Jack. Their banter is so delightful, and I loved how the Twitter war unfolded and how the two grew closer through it. This book also touches on family expectations and high school burnout, which is a very relevant experience. Plus, it was so fun reading about all of Pepper’s delicious desserts—now I want to bake all of her creations. See my aesthetic of the book here.
