Best Friendships in YA

best friendships in ya - theheartofabookblogger

Hi all! To celebrate National Best Friend Day, I thought I’d share some of my favorite friendships in YA. So let’s start!

Maddie & Verity

Code Name Verity is one of my all time favorite books — it is so heartbreaking and beautiful and stunning and there are just no words to describe how much I love this book. I especially love how the friendship between the two main characters is the main theme in the novel. Having a novel focus on two best friends while they work together during WWII was the perfect combination.

Bex & Cammiei'd tell you i love you but then i'd have to kill you - theheartofabookblogger

The Gallagher Girls is a series full of awesome female friendships! I love the relationships Cammie has with Bex, Liz, and Macey. These four stick together through so much and our so supportive of each other. Cammie and Bex especially complement each other in a wonderful way and have such a strong friendship.

Emmy, Caro, & Drew

I loved the dynamic between Emmy and her two best friends, Caro and Drew, in Emmy & Oliver. These three have such a fun friendship. I love that they could tease each other one minute, but still seriously be there the next. It was great seeing how welcoming they were for Oliver and how they tryied to help him adjust to his new life.

Will & Jem

Oh man, The Infernal Devices is one of my favorite series, and that in part is do the best love triangle I have read. What makes is so great is that it is between best friends, but they want what’s best for each other, even if that means they do not end up with the woman they love. Will and Jem love each other so much, that they put aside their own feelings to make the other one happy.

Safi & Iseult

I loved Safi and Iseult’s friendship in Truthwitch. Safi and Iseult are Threadsisters, and their relationship is beautiful. Safi is a bit reckless, but Iseult makes up for it by being calm and collected. All in all, they balance each other out perfectly, and make a pretty badass fighting duo, too.

 Celaena & Nehemia

In the Throne of Glass series, Celaena and Nehemiah are both determined women fighting, Celaena for her freedom and Nehemiah for her country. I love how Nehemia befriended Celaena and how close they became. Even more, I love how Nehemia tried to inspire Celaena into action and to fight for a greater cause.

There are plenty of other friendships that I love out there, but these are the ones I wanted to highlight. I especially wanted to feature friendships that never turn into a romance. While I love the best friends to lovers trope (if it’s done well!), I think it’s important to portray strong friendships in books as well. So now you know a few of my favorite book friendships! But tell me, which friendships are your favorite? I want to know!
