Tour of Maui + Giveaway: Just My Luck

I absolutely cannot wait to read Just My Luck as it sounds like such a fun story + it’s set in Hawaii! I’m beyond excited to host Jennifer Honeybourn today as she gives us a tour of Maui and the inspiration behind parts of the book! I loved collaborating on this guest post with Jennifer, and I hope you enjoy the map I created!

I found inspiration for the setting of my book, JUST MY LUCK, when I was in Maui a few years ago. I’ve been to this magical island several times, and I loved the idea of setting a book there. The rest of the story — about a girl who works at a luxury hotel and is trying to improve her karma by rectifying some past mistakes — came a bit later, but I took advantage of my time on the island to do some super fun research.

So, in no particular order, here are some of my favorite spots on Maui — several of which I used in the book:

Grand Wailea Hotel
I have never stayed actually stayed here, but my family and I have wandered around the incredible grounds pretending that we were. I used this hotel as inspiration for the Grand Palms Maui, the hotel that Marty works at.

Maui Tacos
Maui Tacos was the inspiration for the taco restaurant that Marty and Will visit in the book. There are a few different locations on the island. I still think about these tacos. So good.

Leoda’s Kitchen and Pie Shop
This charming restaurant is located just off Honoapi’llani Highway in Lahaina. I set a scene near the end of JUST MY LUCK in Leoda’s. If you go there, try the Olowalu lime pie (trust me).

Ululani’s Hawaiian Shave Ice
So shave ice is a MUST if you’re in Hawaii. It’s sort of like a really soft snow cone and it comes in a bunch of different flavors. There are several locations, but we usually hit up the one in Lahaina.

Lahaina
Lahaina is this great little waterfront village with lots of cute shops and restaurants. I had Marty and Will walk down Front Street in the book. There’s a nice park on Front Street, actually, that has a gorgeous banyan tree that’s almost sixty feet tall — good place to catch some shade on a hot day.

Napili Bay
Napili Bay is a sandy cove in West Maui. Parking is a bit of a pain, but it’s so worth it. If you go at sunset, you can watch the sea turtles swim to shore and climb onto the rocks — which is exactly what Marty and Will did.

Kaanapali Beach
My favorite beach on an island filled with amazing beaches (once named America’s best beach!). Perfect sand, lots of high-end resorts, shopping and restaurants if you get tired of sitting in the sun.

If you can’t get to Maui, then hopefully you’ll at least get a feel for it in JUST MY LUCK!

About the Book

22718738Release Date: July 16, 2019
Find it: Goodreads, Amazon, Barnes & Noble

Marty has terrible luck and she knows exactly why. While working as a housekeeper at the ritzy Grand Palms hotel in Maui, Marty made it a habit to steal small items from the guests. What better way to stick it to the rich snobs they have to clean up after? Marty knows how to turn her luck around — she just has to return all of the items she stole.

When Marty meets Will, a new guest who is staying for the summer, she does the one thing she always promised herself she’d never do — fall for an out-of-towner. But Will’s special, different from the other guests at the hotel. Maybe Marty’s luck is finally turning around.

After a string of misunderstandings and accidents threaten Will and Marty’s relationship, Marty has to find a way to fix her luck for good — or say goodbye to Will forever.
