Playlist + Giveaway: How the Light Gets In

I am so excited to have Katy Upperman on the blog today sharing a playlist inspired by her latest novel, How the Light Gets In! I adored reading Katy’s debut Kissing Max Holden (read my review) and I can’t wait to pick up her third novel, which is part paranormal! So without further ado, here’s Katy!

I’m thrilled to share How the Light Gets In’s playlist – thanks so much for having me on your blog, Jordan!

I make playlists for all my books, but I don’t listen to music while I’m writing. I do listen pretty much any other time—while I’m driving or cleaning or cooking or exercising. When I’m working on a new story, part of the early brainstorming process includes curating a playlist, one I’ll continue to add to right up until the book is done. I choose songs for their lyrics, their rhythm, their mood, or because they’re mentioned in the story (like Pearl Jam’s Better Man, in HTLGI’s case). I like when my playlists feel like an accessory to their book, like a soundtrack that follows the highs and lows of the story. I hope that’s the case with HTLGI’s playlist, which is below.

Since her sister’s tragic death, seventeen-year-old Callie Ryan has basically given up. Her grades have plummeted, she’s quit her swim team, and she barely recognizes the people her parents have become.

When she returns to her aunt’s run-down coastal Victorian one year after Chloe’s death, Callie resigns herself to a summer of guilt and home renovations. She doesn’t expect to be charmed by the tiny coastal town or by Tucker Morgan, a local boy brimming with sunshine.

But even as her days begin to brighten, Callie’s nights are crowded with chilling dreams, unanswered questions, and eerie phenomenon that have her convinced she’s being haunted. Will Callie be able to figure out what her sister is trying to communicate before it’s too late?
