Black Dove, White Raven US Tour Stop

Code Name Verity is one of my all time favorite books. I love how the friendship between the two main characters is the main theme in the novel. Often times YA books can be centered around romance (which I don’t mind at all!), but it was very refreshing to read this book where it focused on the girls.

Anyway, I was very excited to learn that Elizabeth Wein would be touring the US for her latest book and that she was having an event nearby that I could attend. I cleared my schedule for that night and put it in my calendar right away. I have attended an event at this store before and it filled up pretty fast so I arrived early to save a seat and buy books. However, I was very surprised to see that not too many people showed up. What was even more surprising was that there was only about one other teen there. I think this was due to that fact that everyone is on Spring Break this week and that Yallwest is taking place over the weekend, but I was still very surprised. I definitely believe many teens would enjoy Code Name Verity and should give it a shot.

The event started off very casually because Margaret Stohl, the moderator for the evening, was unfortunately stuck in traffic due to rain. Elizabeth explained some of the backstory of her life and how it inspired Black Dove, White Raven. This event was very interesting since it was almost like a little history lesson and I learned a lot that I had not known before. Margaret Stohl arrived and it was great hearing her thoughts about the book as well.

After the discussion, we lined up and had our books signed. It was great talking with both authors. I have not had a chance to read any of Margaret Stohl’s books yet so I was able to get a new series to start. We talked about the upcoming Yallwest (she is one of the directors), colleges, and publishing. I talked to Elizabeth Wein about the friendship between Maddie and Verity and her life in Scotland.

Overall, the event went well and I enjoyed myself very much. Thanks so much Elizabeth and Margaret for a great night!
